It’s Ok Not to Have A Seder

It’s ok not to have a seder, not to attend a seder, not to celebrate pesakh this year. If the seder means to you a family gathering (biological or intentional) and zoom just doesn’t cut it, you don’t have to have a seder now. If the seder means to you singing together and that REALLY doesn’t work on zoom or google hangouts, you don’t have to have a seder now. If the seder means to you a re-commitment to social justice but right now it’s all you can do to send postcards to voters and you’re already doing that, you don’t have to have a seder now. If a seder is usually a pleasure but at this time it just seems like a sad chore, you don’t have to have a seder now.

When the Temple in Jerusalem was conquered, there was no ingathering for sukkis (you might say “sukkot”). When it was regained, we had “sukkus in kislev” (which we now call khanukeh). You will have a seder again. When you are ready. When it’s time. It’s ok not to do it now.
